YC Summer 2021 Batch Stats

Earlier this month we hosted our 33rd Demo Day where 377 companies presented virtually. You can see a list of the companies that presented on-the-record in the YC Directory.

Here are stats on the YC S21 batch:

• 377 companies
• 47 countries represented – that represents over 4 billion people around the world
• About 50% of the companies are based outside the US
• The top countries represented, excluding the US, include: India (33), UK (18), Mexico (17), Canada (18), Brazil (11), and Singapore (12)

• B2B/Enterprise – 30%
• Fintech (including consumer fintech) – 18%
• Consumer (including consumer healthcare) – 15%
• DevTools – 14%
• Bio/Healthcare (Diagnostics/Therapeutics/Med Device) – 9%
• Education – 5%
• Climate/Energy/Sustainability – 4%
• Real Estate/Housing/Construction – 3%
• Aerospace/Aviation – 2%

Founder demographics:

• 37% of the batch identify as an underrepresented founder (Women, Black and Latinx, Native American)

• Women founders: 22% of the companies have a woman founder, 12% of the founders are women

• Demographic breakdown:

• 17% Asian founders

• 4% Black founders

• 15% LatinX

• 5% Middle Eastern or North African

• .33% Native American or Native Hawaiian

• 17% South Asian

• 43% White
